Serious, Real Serious

I am scared. Scared that the politicking we're seeing will be seen as a show. Sorta an extension of the Oprah Show, or Saturday Night Live. We are used to be entertained by shows. Modern technology. Just listen to the Ipod or watch the laptop or tes messages on the cell phone. Everything has become a show. To be a presidential or vice presidential candidate, you need to produce a show. Appear on David Letterman or Saturday Night Live as McCain or Palin have, or produce your own show with 100,000 people or 50,000 people (and that's without a football game.)

Yes, I am scared that the serious issues before us will be overlooked by the entertainment of it all. And all of us older folk should be very scared. We receive a lot of money from the government through Social Security, Medicare, and other means. Now when the present government is done, after it has spent trillions, where will the next President and the government get money. Much will be from programs for the elderly. Just like a large pot of gold in front of a poor person. (See what has happend to the majority of pension programs. Gone or cut to the bone.)

Yes, there is something we can do. Its called "taking our government back. Putting on our own show with us being the producer and director. Get involved in the election process, our own show. Now, today, read about the local and national candidates. You may have to look a bit, go to the library, or to a computer (get the kids involved with the computer work). Be active. Decide which ways you can help. There may be a candidate you can volunteer for. Work at the candidate's office answering phones or doing paperwork. Go canvassing, visiting people at home informing them about your candidate. Or help people register to vote. I am canvassing for the reelection of my congressman Kirk though his competitor, Dan Seals seems pleasant enough. I am also writing letters to the editor. Even putting on a bumper sticker or a yard sign is effective. Then, its time for the show to go on. Go to vote, of course taking others to the polling place, the ultimate production. And you are a star.
